Church vs. Beer on Twitter, By County, Across the U.S.

by Christopher Cocca

The Map.

Friend of the blog Joe writes and asks “do we have to choose?”

Well, it’s not my opinion, of course, that church and beer are some kind of polar opposites.  But it’s also the case that folks in recovery might not feel particularly supported at a bar, even when (or maybe especially when) we’re doing church there.  As great as it is doing spiritual formation at the Brew Works, there’s no way around the fact that not everyone can participate.  What, if anything, can be done about that?

broken liturgy + zion's basement + art + holy saturday = RISE

by Christopher Cocca

Reblogged from broken liturgy: church undone:

An evening of art and music related to and inspired by the theme RISE will be offered in the sanctuary at Zion's Reformed UCC, 620 W. Hamilton Street on Saturday, April 7.  The evening begins at 7 PM and will feature visual art (paintings, photography, sculpture), multi-media, and live music. The sanctuary pews and vigil stations will be open for free prayer and contemplation, and you are invited to move freely about the space, reflect on the creativity of local artists, immerse yourself in the live accompanying music, and contemplate the tension between a Saturday spent in the grave and the joyful anticipation of Sunday morning.
